This project began in 2020 and was delivered across three carefully staged construction phases, in collaboration with Caroline Dawes Design. Following a major renovation of the heritage-listed hospital, much of the original landscape had been lost to extensive building works and temporary site infrastructure. The brief was to bring the gardens back to life, creating calm, welcoming outdoor spaces where patients, visitors and staff could rest and enjoy the grounds.
Working in stages around a functioning hospital, the team rebuilt the landscape with close attention to its heritage setting. The planting palette was thoughtfully selected to complement the heritage character of the building, reintroducing a sense of softness and greenery throughout the grounds. Each phase was managed to keep the surroundings calm and considered for the people relying on the hospital every day.
The result is a series of restored, green and inviting gardens that soften the hospital grounds and offer a moment of calm to everyone who passes through them. We continue to care for the landscape on a regular fortnightly basis, ensuring it stays healthy, vibrant and presented at its very best throughout the year.

The gardens were rebuilt across three carefully staged construction phases, each managed to restore the landscape without disrupting the daily rhythm of an operating heritage hospital.
